This paper examines various aspects of quotative constructions used in Korean language education textbooks from the viewpoint of spoken language education. Quotative constructions of spoken language denote characteristics which are different from those of written language in Korean. Their characteristics need to be considered in arranging teaching items and offering explanations in Korean language education textbooks. And the dialogues of Korean language education textbooks need to reflect their characteristics. From this point of view, I examine arrangements of items concerning quotative constructions and explanations on their usage in Korean language education textbooks. I also examine their usage in the dialogues of Korean language education textbooks in comparison with those in Modern Korean Spoken Language Corpus. They are different from those of Modern Korean Spoken Language Corpus in that they show high percentage of hada ‘do’ and quotative markers. They denote high percentage of indirect speech and lack of forms without quotative predicates. In order to enhance authenticity of the dialogues in Korean language education textbooks, these aspects need to be adjusted.
