This study finds out the spatial composition of Korean and Chinese Houses with space syntax.
The results of analysis so far are summarized as follow.
First of all, korean house shall have priority in visible division system for gender classification and in space system for the distinction of status. But For chinese house, in visible or invisible, the higher hierarchy of space is placed more inside of the house.
While korean house have high connectivity and opened space with MaDang, chinese one have closed space system. It shows difference between korean house which get privacy and authority by opened spaces and chinese house which get privacy by closed and deep spaces. So, although similar courtyard system, they shows different space system each other. Next, in case of apartment of nowadays, korean one have more opened spaces than chinese one. And It shows that korean apartment still reflect traditional lifestyle, preferred space and social structure.
Korean house’s opened space with MaDang has evolved into space of nowadays apartment of korea around livingroom. On the other hand, although chinese traditional house is in progress with yu€nzi(院子) as center, nowadays apartment of china is in progress with dining room. Also, China is identified as having more independence from personal space than Korea.
