As issues related to senior citizens take on increasing importance, senior hospitals have become more than just a facility to house senior citizens. They are also a place that promotes their recovery through rehabilitation and a transitional space before returning home. In particular, patient rooms are where most of the daily activities of patients take place and thus creating an appropriate environment that helps treatment is extremely important. As interior environment takes on more significance, simulations that evaluate the illumination in advance are frequently used. But since simulation cannot predict the situation that might occur after construction is created a comparison of the simulated results and actual illumination is necessary.
Therefore, this study discusses measures to acquire accurate values in simulation by conducting a comparative analysis of the actual measured values and simulated values. First, four-patient rooms’ natural illumination in K senior hospital was measured, and second, using ecotect analysos 2011, a simulation illumination value was concluded. Lastly, the two were compared against each other.
Illumination in simulated scenarios was higher in all measured locations than the actual measured value. Artificial lighting was installed in appropriate locations but additional lighting would have to be installed that allows individual control.
This study can be helpful in using simulations when evaluating the illumination functions of architecture design. Case studies will be needed for follow-up studies.
