Hopping movement could cause stress fractures, osteoarthritis and ruptures of ligament, tendon and muscle as jumping high and changing directions and cutting movement is closely related with lower limb’s injuries as changing directions quickly during sports activities.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Korea and western housing lifestyle on lower limb’s joint motion of hopping and cutting movement and injury risk of the lower limb.
11 Korean with sitting-on-the floor lifestyle (age 23.3±1.9 years, height 178.2±4.6 cm, weight 69.5±5.1kg) and 11 Westerner with sitting-on-chair lifestyle (age 23.2±1.3 years, height 182.9±5.1 cm, weight 78.1±6.8 kg) were recruited for this study.
The distance between starting and finishing motion was set as 05 percent of each subject’s height during hopping and cutting movement and the cutting angle was controlled to be 45 degrees. 8 infrared cameras and 1 force plate were used to acquire kinematic and kinetic variables of lower limb’s joints.
The results are as follows.
1. Both Korea and Western housing lifestyle group showed the larger ROM of ankle, knee and hip joints in cutting movement and both hopping and cutting movement showed the smaller ROM of ankle, knee and hip joints in Korea than Western housing lifestyle group.
2. Both Korea and Western housing lifestyle group showed less utilization of ankle joint and more utilization of knee joint in cutting movement. During hopping movement Korea housing lifestyle group showed less utilization of ankle joint, however, more utilization of knee joint than Western housing lifestyle group.
3. Concentric work and contribution ratio of concentric work showed no differences between the both housing lifestyle group and the both movements.
