This study aims to neuropsychologically clarify emotional changes using electroencephalography (EEG) spectrum power and cerebral hemisphere asymmetric difference indicators in order to look at the effects of water rehabilitation exercise on psychological benefits of children with encephalopathy. Mood states and brain waves were measured before and after water rehabilitation exercise using profile of mood states (POMS) and a brain wave measuring apparatus, respectively. For brain wave analysis, two-way repeated analysis of variance (ANOVA) which repetitively measured within-subjects variables, areas (4) X timing (2), was conducted brain wave analysis, and one-way repeated ANOVA was performed which repetitively conducted measurement before and after the exercise with design within subjects for emotion questionnaires and EEG cerebral hemisphere difference score analysis. In the result between measured areas, activation of the left frontal lobe was high. According to result of the EEG cerebral hemisphere asymmetry difference indicators, there was the frontal lobe activation in the right frontal lobe before the water rehabilitation exercise but after the water rehabilitation exercise, the left frontal robe was dominantly activated. Such result suggests that water rehabilitation exercise positively affects physical and mental stability of children with encephalopathy. Because emotional changes are observed with diverse analytical methods, this study will be able to contribute to providing more objective information about changes in psychological neural mechanism of children with encephalopathy.
