This study examines the effect of indoor lighting conditions on the perception of space and lighting environments for a small private office. Four office spaces with different lighting conditions were modeled using the Lightscape. Target illuminances of the four space illuminated by four different lighting fixtures were from 650 lx to 669 lx. The images of each space created by Lightscape were projected to a screen from a beam projector in a classroom. Twenty two participants evaluated the spatial perception and lighting environments for the space using the projected images on a screen. Results indicate that the spatial satisfaction was strongly influenced by the shapes and layouts of lighting fixtures. The distribution patterns of light from fixtures to occupants’ viewing angles were meaningful contributors to the perception of lighting environments. The psychological satisfaction with space was affected by the openness of space, satisfaction levels for space with lighting conditions and psychological stability for the space. The satisfaction levels for lighting conditions were effectively influenced by the light distributions from fixtures, visual comfort, decoration for fixtures and satisfaction levels with the layout of fixtures.
