The purpose of this study is to explore the essence and the meaning of the elderly’s experience of adult-child bereavement and raising grandchildren. Also, this study suggests a better social support system for grand-parenting. To achieve the goals of this study, it has chosen a qualitative research method, especially Giorgi’s phenomenological approach method, which can be best used in understanding the essence and meaning of the experiences of research participants. Data collection for this study was conducted through in-depth interviews with 11 elderly people who lost adult children, which resulted in a care-giving burden in raising their grandchildren. The analysis from the statements consists of 8 components. The 8 components are‘Buried at sea by Fatalistic Punishment’, ‘Withdrawn from the Society with Inner Agony’, ‘Encountering People who want to help Me’, ‘Escaping in a Deep Sea and Finding Meanings’, ‘Children who came to me Inevitably’, ‘Struggling with Them’, ‘Making a Die-game through Storms of Life’ and ‘Circulating Lives for Nourishing the Land’. Participants in the study, who were faced with the pain of their own child’s death and the difficulties of raising grandchildren, are free from pain through the existence of their grandchildren and the helpful network. Likewise, they gain meaning to live through a mutual dependence with their grandchildren and have a second chance to live on as parents again. Research findings suggest that customized supports for foster parents community, conducting public campaign to reduce social prejudices, emotional coaching for a better family communication, parenting skill education for foster parents, initial intensive intervention after entering the protection system, stable economic support, qualitative case management, and vitalizing of foster-care service.
