This study examined the authenticity of the listening and activity types of listening tasks in Korean listening for academic purposes. In doing so, it aimed to investigate and analyse the authenticity of the discourse in the listening textbooks and the activity types of listening tasks for academic Korean learners. Through analysis and reflection, I discuss important issues for the future development of listening materials. The results of the analysis confirm the progress of the textbooks. However, it is necessary to diversify the genres of the discourse, which were recorded using various media. I also discuss the broadening of the scope for more practical listening. Regarding the listening task activities in the textbooks, I found that the tasks were biased toward literal comprehension listening, intensive listening and selective listening. Therefore, I suggest that the inferential listening tasks and interactive listening activities should be further reflected in the textbooks.
