This article examines the "request expression" of Korean-Japanese bilingual children from the perspective of an intermediate language. The study found that 〈Request (Instructions/Order)〉was used as one of the typical "request expressions." In particular, from A, considered challenging to recognize in relational contexts, was found to show a biased use. However, as the school grade increased, the perception of relational contexts improved, and 〈request for permission〉 and 〈request for ownership〉 were observed as emerging forms. Additionally, although all 〈Request(Explanation)〉 expressions were used, their content and combination with other functions varied, indicating that the children were freely making requests at this stage, employing their Japanese language skills.
Compared to adult Japanese native speakers and elementary school-aged Japanese native speakers, 〈request (request for action)〉 and 〈request (wish)〉 did not appear among the Korean Japanese bilingual children. A distinctive feature observed was that elementary school-aged native speakers commonly used the "request for action," underscoring a developmental aspect among Korean-Japanese bilingual children. Many instances of these forms ware found in input from mothers and teachers in the study, suggesting that this input did not significantly influence the children's request expressions.
