Purpose : This study attempted to confirm its applicability as a high-functional material by synthesizing gelatin methacrylate (GelMA) and incorporating it into it with a basic hydrogel lens mixture, and then comparing and analyzing the physical properties of the manufactured lens. Methods : GelMA, phosphate buffer solution (PBS), and methacrylic anhydride (MA) were used for the synthesis of GelMA. In addition, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, which is a main material, and 2-hydroxy-4'-(2-hydroxyethoxy)-2-methylpropiophenone (Irgacure 2959), which is a crosslinking agent, were used, respectively. For the analysis of physical properties of the manufactured lens, optical transmittance, refractive index, watere content, and contact angle were evaluated. Results : The synthesis of GelMA was confirmed through energy dispersive spectroꠓscopy (EDS). As a result of measuring the physical properties of the prepared lens, the visible light transmittance was 91.33 to 71.02% and the refractive index was 1.4383 to 1.4365, the water content was 39.08 to 39.04%, and the contact angle was 70.83 to 70.43°, respectively. As the addition ratio of GelMA increased, the refractive index also increased. Conclusion : The addition of GelMA is effective in increasing the refractive index without affecting the water content and wettability of the hydrogel lens, and has the function of blocking UV-B and UV-A regions. Therefore, this study concludes that the hydrogel material with added GelMA can be utilized in various ways as a material for high refractive index and visibilityfunctional lenses.
