The purpose of this research is to determine the impacts of Flying disc activities conducted at different times on body development, basic physical strength and Electroencephalogram of the participating students. Accordingly, 24 male elementary students (5th or 6th graders) were divided into three groups; control group(n=8), morning group(n=8), and afternoon group(n=8). They did flying disk program for 40 minutes three days a week.
As for data analysis, two-way(RM) ANOVA was used to analyze interaction effects between different groups and times of the variables. The results coming from this research are as follows.
1. In terms of body development, all of the three groups showed an increase. But only the afternoon group showed an increase in weight and BMI(p<.05).
2. In terms of basic physical strength, the control group showed an increase in agility while the morning group saw an increase in muscle endurance, flexibility and agility. As for the afternoon group, their muscle endurance and agility improved. Notably, interactive effects were found in muscle endurance(p<.05).
3. When it comes to concentration-related EEG, the afternoon group experienced an increase in SMR wave. On the other hand, the morning group, in comparison with the control group, saw an increase in SMR wave and Mid-beta wave but a decrease in Alpha wave and High-beta wave(p<.05). Also, an interactive effect was found in SMR wave(p<.05).
In particular, the morning group showed more positive results in concentration-related EEG in comparison with the afternoon group. Considering that, it is confirmed that sports activities at morning time have more positive impacts on concentration and cognitive ability.
