The purpose of this study is to settle issues caused by establishing the predicate clause in the double subject constructions.
Most Korean linguists regarded that the adjctive and some intransitive verb which meant the process could be the predicates of the double subject constructions. Only a few Korean linguists insisted that some transitive verb and passive verb could be the predicates of the double subject constructions.
So I examine whether the double subject constructions can be used in the following five basic sentence patterns of Korean: Pattern 1 (Subject + Predicate), Pattern 2(Subject + Complement + Predicate), Pattern 3(Subject + Obligatory adverbial + Predicate), Pattern 4(Subject + Object + Predicate), and Pattern 5(Subject + Object + Obligatory adverbial + Predicate). As a result, I confirm that the double subject constructions can be used in all five basic sentence patterns of Korean. If we establish the predicate clause in the double subject constructions, we can not explain the structure of Korean sentence and the basic sentence patterns of Korean.
Therefore I insist that the real subject in the double subject constructions should be only one. And by doing this, we can explain the structure of Korean sentences and establish the basic sentence patterns.
