Nouns, verbs, and the conversion between them are an old topic in Chinese language study.
First, when a verb appears in the position of a subject or object, previous studies have defined it as nounization, in terms of conversion. But, it should be viewed as a referential usage of the verb itself, not as a nounization of the verb
Second, there is the ‘Noun-verb inclusion theory’. In the ‘Noun-verb inclusion theory’, a noun is a concept of ‘name’ or ‘designation’, and not only things but also actions and properties are included in the scope of the noun, and the verb becomes a sub-concept of the noun. ‘Noun-verb inclusion theory’ can effectively solve the problem of interconversion between nouns and verbs, but since verbs have both referential and statement functions, their identity cannot be confirmed until they are used in sentences. Therefore, if there is no establishment of a theoretical system that fits the pragmatic system of reference and statement, it can only increase confusion.
Third, Noun-to-verb conversions and Verb-to-noun conversions are asymmetric in many ways. In particular, in terms of the frequency of appearance, Verb-to-noun conversions is overwhelmingly high, and this has been explained relatively clearly from the point of view of cognitive linguistics. In addition, although the occurrence of Noun-to-verb conversions was considered only in the aspect of pragmatic in the previous study, it was found that in fact, most of the occurrence types were in the aspect of syntactic and lexical.
