This study examines the relationship between the two theories" implementation methods in contemporary architecture based on the analysis of topological operations and phenomenological elements used in the spatial composition of contemporary architecture. Due to the nature of topological operation, it is inevitably related to phenomenology in which the user directly feels the atmosphere of the space because it deals with the relationship between passages, movements, or other programs, which are spaces used by humans. The research process classifies topological operations and phenomenological factors, selects Kunsthal of Rem Koolhaas and the Yokohama Ferry Terminal of FOA, representative examples of contemporary architecture, and examines the relationship between implementation methods. The analyzed spatial characteristics can be phenomenologically explained due to the user"s spontaneity, perceptual experience, and atmosphere in the place according to the spatial composition created by topological operations. In particular, during topological operations, penetration and folding are related to the movement that affects the user, so space is pursued and constructed according to the vertical direction and movement rather than the form itself.
