The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of rhythm-band exercise on body composition and SFT(Senior Fitness Test), Blood Lipid in the Elderly Females. The subjects (n=24) were assigned randomly to either an exercise group (n=12, EX) or non-exercise control group (n=12, CON). The rhythm-band exercise training for 12 weeks consisted of 3 sessions per week with 80 minutes per session. In addition, the intensity for rhythm exercise was set to 11-14 of the Borg scale(6-20) and Band exercise was Band exercise was set at a low middle.
The results of this study are as follows: First, MM(muscle mass) was statistically increased in EX group(p<.05) after 12-week exercise. Body weight, %BF significantly were in increased CON group(p<.05) and FFM(p<.05) decreased. Second, 30-Second Chair Stand, 2-Min Step, Arm Curl was statistically increased in EX group(p<.05) and 2.4m Up and Go(p<.01), Chair Sit and Reach(p<.05) significantly were in decreased CON group. For blood Lipids, TC, TG statistically decreased(p<.05), a lso in HDL-C to EX group(p<.05). TG was in increased CON group(p<.05).
As a result, we confirmed the increase of muscle mass, the significantly increased of SFT and the positive aspect of blood lipid in the elderly women through the aerobic rhythm exercise and resistance exercise band exercise program. It is considered that this is an effective exercise method to prevent obesity in the elderly and various studies are needed considering the exercise method and exercise frequency.
