This study aims to investigate phonological factors that affect the ordering of binomials in English, based on the Korean EFL learners’ knowledge of binomials. Forty undergraduate students were asked to perform an acceptability judgment task to test their awareness of almost irreversible 40 English binomials. The result showed that they made the most errors in the ordering of Adj+Adj binomials, followed by the types of V+V, Prep+Prep, N+N, and Adv+ Adv. Their lack of knowledge of binomials was proven to be unstatable, when analyzing the scores of the test. It was also found that Korean English learners had insufficient knowledge of phonological constraints that play a key role in the binomial ordering, in which the first word has higher vowels, more front vowels, shorter vowels, fewer initial and more final consonants, less obstruent initial and more obstruent final consonants, fewer syllables, and rhythmic alternation.
