In this study, it is based on one ugly woman who was mentioned briefly as a wife of Zhugeliang in The three kingdom’s story(三國志演義), and it shows the meaning and how it has become a Korean Chosŏn dynasty’s Hwangpuinchŏn. Lady Hwang who is in The three kingdom’s story is described as a talented woman but ugly. Although she is ugly, Zhugeliang gets married to her, because of her talent and moral virtue, so he could learn the Taoist magic from her. This Lady Hwang’s story is similar to the story of Zhonglichun(鍾離春) which is mentioned in Liu-xiang(劉向)’s Lienvzhuan(列女傳) at Han(漢) dynasty of China. This ugly Zhonglichun was qualified to be king’s wife because of the talent. When this narrative of The three kingdom’s story spread in Chosŏn, lady Hwang’s story naturally spread too. In Chosŏn, the novel of Parkcijeon(朴氏傳) has a scene that ugly woman who is good at Taoist magic becomes a beauty. In this novel, we can find the influence of lady Hwang’s story. Through this process, at the end of Choseon dynasty, the novel, Hwangpuinchŏn got published. In this Chosŏn novel, ugly lady Hwang also changed her beauty and it became a better novel with completed story than lady Hwang’s story of The three kingdom’s story. The common change in female appearance in Chosŏn novels is storytelling for reader. And in the male-centered Confucian culture, ugly female characters are also associated with unacceptable cultural psychology. This is a characteristic of Chosŏn’s Classical narrative which differs from Chinese ones. In the final part of this study, it is suggested that lady Hwang’s image in the web game has already reflected the consumer needs of the narrative. Furthermore, check the process of constantly reproducing the motifs of Chinese classical narratives.
