This research investigates college students’ actual book reviews to diagnose the book review writing and suggest the effective writing correction plan. To do this, after examining ‘Book Review Writing’ in the writing and speaking course at Daegu Catholic University, the study diagnosed students’ actual book reviews through the web-based writing correction system. In students’ book reviews, there are several problems such as the lack of understanding about book review writing (if the title is missing, if the title is a course title or an assignment title, if the title is a name of the book, if the title and content are not relevant), the lack of analysis on the original text (list of the plot, absence of description or interpretation of original text), the absence of evaluation (list of contents about the personal lives, the emotional presentation on a personal level, absence of the significance of the book on the social level). In particular, 42% of the reviewers did not write the title in the organization part of the book review, and the title and content were not related. This means the presentation of the plot or contents without the evaluation of the book. On the other hand, some cases were just written subjective opinions without analyzing or interpreting contents or meaning of books such as contents, organization, and plot. As a method of writing correction on the book review, it is divided into writing correction on the meaning to book review, writing correction on the organization to book review, writing correction on the social and cultural communication. In college students’ book reviews, there is a basic process of writing rather than the meaning of book reviews themselves, before that, it has a meaning as a task performance. Since college students have difficulties in writing a book review, we expect to be more effective on the education for book review writing and revising process of book review.
