This article explores the importance of recognizing L2 writing anxiety manifested in graduate students. Despite a recent decline of studies on the matter following a surge of interest from the 1970s to the 2000s, L2 graduate students’ anxiety in regards to writing still flourishes to various degrees and remains a critical issue in academia. As a whole, writing anxiety is situated in how emotion affects writing with an emphasis for how emotion mediates student’s learning. After the discussion of negative effects of the phenomenon of writing anxiety, there still remains room to explore the treatment options or self-strategy which L2 graduate students consider taking. To this end, the paper raises several questions to prompt further research into how to deal with the issue of writing anxiety existing persistently in the L2 graduate students.
